Elche 1 - 2 Real Madrid

So, Match day 6 was over and Real was very fortunate to win that game against Elche. Sergio Ramos could've been sent off for his second bookable offence, but he stayed on till the end. Then late in injury time, Elche equalised. As far as I remember, it took them 3 passes for scoring, first was a long ball from Elche goal keeper to some one in the left wing, second pass was by that player on the left wing who played the ball to the one who assisted the goal scorer and the third pass was the assist itself. I don't know where Carvajal, Arbeloa, Pepe and our central defensive midfielders were and no matter how quickly Elche came forward, our defenders should have been able to deal with them. But it wasn't so and they equalised. From 80th minute I was sitting tight and was afraid that Elche might equalise and we might end up loosing 2 points. And that commentator kept on saying that Boakye scored a goal in injury time in last game and might fancy his chances in this game. And his words came true, that Boakye guy did score the goal in injury time. I wonder what homework did Real Madrid do regarding this guy, when they knew that he was known for scoring last minute goals. After Elche's equaliser, the game's almost over, but just then Real won a corner and I guess Illarra took it and it seemed to me that Pepe was fouled in the box. But he wasn't, the replays showed that it wasn't a foul and not a penalty. Anyway, the penalty was converted by Ronaldo.

The match referee was severely accused of favouritism, for one he continued the play to go on beyond the injury time which helped Real win a corner and then he awarded a penalty for a non-foul. First, it must be made sure that he didn't favour Real on purpose. Then, it must be checked if he is worthy/fit/competitive enough to referee in big games. Anyway, we all concede that Real was indeed very lucky to win 3 points from that game.  But what's up with Pique and Rosssell. That pique guy, some days back said that Real is favoured by banking institutions implying that the club get easy loans or something like that. And now he compares this match to some comedy film through his twitter message. Then Rossell says he still can't believe that penalty awarded to Real Madrid.

First, I don't know anything about Pique's first accusation as I have no clue anything about the club's financial matters, but I know that there were accusations against Real benefiting somehow through its stadium dealings with Madrid Municipal Corporation. And probably it may be true that Real somehow benefiting in one way or other from Spanish govt. But was it Pique's place to comment? Of course everybody has a right to voice their opinion, but this is Real Madrid vs Barcelona, and the stakes are very high. Any thing as trivial as some remark may escalate into some serious fight between the clubs and the players. And the most important consequence I could think of is the performance of the Spanish national team in next year World Cup. Del Bosque, the national coach already said that Casillas tried to bridge the gap between Real and Barca and it costed him his starting place in the club. I don't know what clearly happened there or how much of DB said was true, but it is true that Pique crossed a line by commenting on something that doesn't concern him. As you see, Arbeloa already responded via twitter and let us hope that this doesn't escalate into any fight affecting their national performance.

Now, Sandro Rossell. He said that he still couldn't believe that Real won that last minute penalty for a non-foul. He talks as if Barca never won any contentious decisions. There are many instances that I myself, who hasn't watched any football prior to 2012, know where Barca won a penalty for a non-foul or got a player sent-off simply or dived and won a free-kick and stuff like that. Every one knows that UCL semi-final where Chelsea must have at least 3 clear penalties awarded. But it wasn't so and Barca won that year Champions league. He must remember that one living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at others. The ideal thing to do when media questions anything controversial regarding Real Madrid is to ignore it. Same for Real. Of course, I object Mourinho poking Tito in his eye, fuelling the rivalry between Real and Barca players and stuff like that. Both the teams have exceptional players, once in a generation super stars Ronaldo & Messi and are Europe's top clubs. I want them to just play football and not get involved in any off-the-field issues.

Later...
